Cascade Backcountry Alliance ("CBA", "we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you participate in our SMS-based Trailhead Survey programs.

1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, specifically when you participate in our trailhead data collection surveys.
-
Mobile Phone Number: When you text a keyword (e.g., SURVEY, CBA) to our number, we receive your phone number to facilitate the survey conversation.
-
Survey Responses: We collect the data you provide during the survey, such as ZIP code, parking experiences, and safety observations.
-
Log Data: Our text messaging provider (Twilio) may process metadata such as the time of the message and delivery status.

2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
-
Advocacy & Research: To aggregate survey responses into anonymous data sets (e.g., "80% of users reported parking issues"). This aggregated data is used to advocate for improved winter recreation access, safety, and infrastructure. We may also publish anonymized quotations from your survey responses (e.g., "I wish there was more parking here") in our reports and advocacy materials to illustrate user experiences. These quotes will never be attributed to your specific phone number or identity, and will never contain personally-identifiable information of any kind.
-
Communication: To send you the survey questions you requested.
-
Compliance: To maintain records of your opt-in and opt-out status.
Note on Phone Number Storage: As stated in our opt-in messages, CBA does not build a marketing list of phone numbers. We use your number solely to conduct the immediate survey session. Phone numbers are stored in encrypted storage and are not directly accessible by anyone at any time.

3. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We may share aggregated, anonymized survey results with partners such as the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust, the U.S. Forest Service, or Washington State agencies to support our advocacy goals. These reports never contain individual phone numbers or personal identifiers.
Mobile Information and SMS Consent: We respect your privacy regarding text messaging.
-
No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes.
-
All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

4. Third-Party Service Providers
We use third-party service providers (such as Twilio) to facilitate our SMS survey system. These providers are authorized to use your personal information only as necessary to provide these services to us and are contractually obligated to protect your data.

5. Your Rights and Choices
-
Opt-Out: You may stop receiving text messages from us at any time by replying STOP to any message.
-
Help: You may request assistance by replying HELP.

6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
