Cascade Backcountry Alliance is recruiting new volunteer board members for the 2026–27 season.
As Cascade Backcountry Alliance continues to grow, we’re excited to bring on up to four new board members to expand our capacity, bring fresh perspectives, and strengthen our ability to advocate for the backcountry community.
Since launching in 2021, Cascade Backcountry Alliance has evolved from a small grassroots effort into a recognized voice for winter backcountry recreation access in Washington. If you're interested in joining a passionate team working to improve access to winter backcountry recreation, our application takes about 15 minutes to complete. We expect board members to contribute approximately about 10 hours per month.
Applications are due by August 7, 2026.

Who We're Looking For
You don't need to be an expert skier or seasoned backcountry traveler to apply. We welcome people who participate in winter backcountry recreation in many forms, including backcountry skiing, splitboarding, snowshoeing, winter hiking, and climbing.
This year, we're looking for experience in the following areas:Â
Nonprofit Fundraising, Finance, and Organizational Leadership: We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in nonprofit fundraising strategy, donor engagement, grant development, financial management, budgeting, tax filing, board governance, or organizational leadership. Experience helping organizations grow and scale their impact is especially valuable.
Advocacy, Public Policy, and Coalition Building: We are seeking individuals with experience in public policy, community advocacy, public affairs, government relations, public campaigns, or coalition building. This could come come from nonprofit organizations, public agencies, community groups, or other advocacy-focused settings. We’re looking for folks who understand how to build support for ideas, navigate decision-making processes, and develop partnerships that advance shared goals.
Community Organizing and Partnership Development: We're looking for individuals who have experience bringing people together around a shared purpose, whether through community organizing, volunteer leadership, or similar. We’re especially interested in folks who can help us build non-transactional relationships with local Tribes.Â
Land Management and Public Lands Expertise: Many of the issues Cascade Backcountry Alliance works on intersect directly with public land management. We are interested in candidates who have professional or volunteer experience working with federal, state, Tribal, or local land management agencies, recreation programs, conservation organizations, or related fields.Â
Cascade Backcountry Alliance is committed to building a board that reflects a diversity of backgrounds, identities, experiences, and perspectives. We encourage people of all races, ethnicities, genders, gender identities and expressions, sexual orientations, ages, abilities, and lived experiences to apply. We are seeking board members who are based in Washington State.
